Montreal, October 15, 2016

Continuing the Nepali tradition, ANQ members, friends & families residing in Montreal and surrounding cities celebrated Dashain in Montreal, Canada. The program was organized by Association of Nepalese in Quebec (ANQ) on 15th October 2016 at the Ganesh Party Palace, 300 Boul. Marcel-Laurin.

Dashain is one of the biggest and the most auspicious festival, celebrated by Nepalese throughout Nepal and round the globe. The fifteen days of celebration occurs during the bright lunar fortnight ending on the day of the full moon. Throughout the festival, the goddess Durga in all her manifestations is worshiped with innumerable prayers (pujas). For Hindus, this festival symbolizes the victory of good over evil. During the festival, all family members return to home to celebrate the festival together and get blessings from elders. (Read more about Dashain).

His Excellency Kali Prasad Pokhrel, ANQ Advisors Dr. Hemanta Paudel, Prakash Mungrati, Pabitra Upadhaya and Scout Canada Representative Robert Schmit extended their best wishes. ANQ President Yubaraj Bhandari welcomed all members and guests, wished a very happy Vijaya Dashami and thanked all for their continued support to ANQ. The program was hosted by ANQ Secretary Rishi Shrestha. ANQ honoured ANQ Advisor and former President Muga Rajbhandari for his years of volunteer service and dedication to the community. The highlight of the grand party was the traditional Nepali cultural program. Pratishtha Sainju, Shyam Tamang, Samya KC, Muskarin Khanal and Usha Mugrati performed wonderful Nepali dances. Navin Gautam, Samira Khatiwada, Rishi Shrestha and Yubaraj Bhandari sang songs and Geeta Baral presented her Dashain poem.
