September 26, 2011. The ANQ women and children sub-committee initiated HaritalikaTeej festival 2069 on Saturday September 15th, at the William Hingston Complex in Montreal. Many ladies from the surrounding area participated in this event, each bringing their star dish to contribute to the potluck being held.

The singing and dancing provided by our talented ladies was quite unforgettable as were the many songs, new and old, played throughout the day. The atmosphere was such that it was more than possible to forget the daily grind of our Canadian routine and think that we all were back in Nepal, celebrating, dancing and singing alongside our sisters, mothers and friends. The beautiful sarees and ornaments all around the room helped to bring another level of brightness into the already joyful room. From speeches welcoming everyone to photography sessions and the many dances where everyone contributed a couple of steps, this truly was a very successful event.
Teej can’t be discussed without the food present of course – the potluck consisted of a greater variety: from traditional rice, vegetables, many achhars, kheer and goat meat to the many sweets and deserts including a delicious cheese cake that left one craving for more. It truly is wonderful that many were able to attend despite everyone’s busy schedules – having events such as these is what makes our community so special and allows our kids to experience the beauty that is Nepal’s culture. Special thanks go to Mala Magar, Sradhha Bista and Gita Parajuli for basically organizing and managing the event weeks ahead of time and Deepa Paudel, Sujita Lamichhane, Amita Rasaili for their infectious enthusiasm, help and support in the organization process as well. And for everyone who came, danced, made merry and enjoyed themselves, thank you for making this event successful!
