October 27, 2012. Hundreds of Nepalese / Nepali speaking families residing in Montreal and surrounding area including Joliette celebrated Dashain, the biggest festival of Nepal, in Montreal, Quebec. The program was organized by Association of Nepalese in Quebec (ANQ).
“Dashain is all about families/friends getting together, receiving blessings from elders and enjoying time collectively. The festival has a special significance for Nepalese across the world, it gives us a great opportunity to unite despite our busy daily schedule” said Muga Rajbhandari, President of ANQ while welcoming the guests. Patrick Baral, as usual, welcomed and highlighted the meaning of Dashain and Dr. Hemant Paudel, ANQ Advisor wished a very Happy Dashain and Tihar during their welcome speech. The program was hosted by ANQ Secretary Deepak Kumar Shrestha.
Keshav Raj Sharma, one of the senior Nepaleses in Montreal, blessed participants with Dashain Tika and Jamara followed by delicious snacks, a full course dinner and a wonderful cultural program where many of young kids and youths including Renchen Sherpa, Rista Bhusal, Anzeela Budha Magar, Risika Shrestha, Rajeswori Rana, Sanskriti Rana, Saugat Shrestha, Regal Khanal, Iksa Limbu, Isha Raj Bhandari, Sophie Maharjan, Yashu Lamsal, Shyam Tamang, Samya KC, Sabina Shahi Boutet, Radha Lama, Renuka Chapagai, Ganga Dhital, Dhana Koirala, Lok Bir Lama, Milan Lama, Krishna Lama , Diwash Neupane, Roma Lama, Parbati Chapagai, Junu Lama, Bhumika Majhi, Sreejana Pradhan, Narbada Dahal, Mamta Sanyasi, Kamala Chapagai, Jyoti Lama, Yuba Raj Bhandari, Shankar Khadka showed their talent in dancing and singing. A poem by Gopal Mungrati also added and extra flavour to the program. A large number of the participants / couples enjoyed by participating in group dances in-between and at the end of the program. Most of the younger artists were coming from the ANQ Dance School.
Shyam Tamang, Coordinator - Cultural sub- committee and his team as well as Chanda Mungrati Shrestha put a lot of efforts to teach traditional Nepali dances. The entire cultural program was managed and coordinated by Shyam Tamang assisted by Jebin Lamichhane, Patrick Baral, Babin Maharjan and Ayush Lamichhane. While Sraddha Bista, ANQ Treasurer and Yuba Raj Bhandari, Coordinator – Event Management Committee co-hosting the cultural program making it even unique and entertaining; ANQ Vice-President Geeta Baral and Deepa Paudel Ghimire were welcoming and registering the participants. Mukti Ghimire and Krishna Bhandari were among those who managed the bar maintaining optimum quality of bar! Anuj Khanal, Rishi Shrestha and Bishwa Thapa were converting the program to digital frame taking pictures of the event.
Certificates of Appreciation were also distributed at the end of the event by ANQ executive committee members, event organization members and team leader from Joliette to cultural program participants. Krishna Bhandari and Karma Sherpa encouraged one of the Joliette dance groups providing with some cash prizes.
