New Year 2071

Montreal, April 19, 2014:  Once again, Nepali New Year 2071 BS was celebrated in a most classic fashion by Nepalese residing in Quebec, Canada. A grand party was organized by ANQ at "Ganesh Party Palace", 300 Marcel Laurin, Montreal.
Waving goodbye to 2070 BS, ANQ members, friends and guests from many cities of Canada, Nepal and USA participated in the party and shared their warm wishes. Famous Nepali singers Dhiraj Rai and Sunita Dulal, were definitely the highlight of this event, who came all the way from Nepal to entertain Nepalese in Canada with Nepali songs.
ANQ secretary Deepak Shrestha commenced the program with a welcome speech and new year greeting to the attendees. The program officially started with Nepali and Canadian national anthem - sung by young Nepali artists wearing different traditional outfits representing different communities in Nepal. ANQ advisor Dr. Hemant Paudel, former president and current ANQ advisor Prakash Mungrati, and NRN vice-president Pabitra Upadhaya welcomed & greeted all the participants wishing a very happy new year and appreciated initiatives taken by ANQ team. President of ANQ - Muga Rajbhandari welcomed and extended new year wishes on behalf of ANQ, also briefly highlighted the ANQ activities and new initiatives of the community.
Cultural program was the major event of the evening with huge success. It began with dance of Sabina Shahi Boutet, a dancing enthusiast. Then came the youngest dancer of the evening, Samya KC, who mesmerized the crowd with her dancing talent. Regal Khanal sang a beautiful song this time showing his vocal talent also. Next beautiful dancing performance was from Isha Rajbhandari and Sophee Maharjan - very young still well-known to ANQ community as they have already shown their dancing talent in the past. Anjeela Budhamagar - a very talented dancer, kept us spellbound with her perfect moves. Everyone was surprised when Muskarin Khanal and Pratistha Sainju thrilled the spectators with their dancing. Samira Khanal and Vishwa Thapa did wonderful job in hosting the cultural program and making it interesting.
For the first time in the ANQ cultural program, famous singer duo Dhiraj Rai and Sunita Dulal were invited. Everyone was thrilled to see the popular singers among them. The singers thoroughly entertained the crowd with their famous and recent songs and made them dance till they were exhausted. One of the songs by Dhiraj Rai called ‘Buddha was born in Nepal’ was the ambassador song to spread the fact that Buddha was born in Nepal. A short "Dohori" between, Yubaraj Bhandari, one of the advisors of ANQ, and Sunita Dulal was just an icing on the cake . Finally the evening ended by honoring special singers Dhiraj Rai and Sunita Dulal with "khada" by ANQ president Muga Rajbhandari and vice-president Gita Baral.
Event management team Prajwal Sainju, Anuj Khanal and Deep Nandan Achhami organized everything needed for the event. Backstage arrangements including sounds system were managed and handled by young members – Jevin Lamichhane, Babin Maharjan.  Ayush, Simon, Saugat, Regal were among the young volunteers. Photos and videos were taken by Rishi Shrestha, Anuj Khanal and Sandeep Shrestha.
We would like to thank all participants, volunteers who really worked hard to make the event successful.
