Candlelight Vigil held in Montreal for Nepal’s Earthquake Victims

May 23, Montreal, Canada: Association of Nepalese in Quebec (ANQ) organized a candlelight vigil at Place Des Arts, Montreal on Saturday evening to pay their tribute and pray for peace of those who were killed and affected by the magnitude of 7.8 on Saturday, April 25th and magnitude 7.3 on Tuesday, May 12th earthquake in Nepal.

Addressing about 200 people, President of the Association of Nepalese in Quebec Mr. Muga Rajbhandari said, “We are here today to pay our tribute to those who are killed and affected by devastating earthquake in Nepal. Our hearts go out to those lost or suffering in Nepal and their friends and family.”

The Ambassador of Nepal to Canada His Excellency Mr. Kali Prasad Pokhrel and Counsellor/DCM Mr. Dilip Kumar Paudel were also among the participants from Embassy of Nepal, Ottawa. “The 7.8-magnitude on April 25th and another 7.3 magnitude quake on May 12th together killed nearly 8,700 people and injured 22,000 others. From immediate assistance to rebuilding Nepal we need help from all communities around the world. We appreciate the initiative taken by Association of Nepalese in Quebec and request to send donation via Prime Minister Relief fund to Nepal,” His Excellency Mr. Pokhrel said. He also expressed heartfelt condolences and wished a speedy recovery of those who are injured.

“Nepal is a beautiful country. Nepalese are very nice. We do our best to help Nepal and Nepali,” the Honorary Consul of Nepal to Quebec Mr. Bernard Voyer said expressing his condolences and deepest sympathy.

The participant of the event held a minute of silence, lit candles and express their condolences in memory of those killed.

Verginie Francoeur and Zohra’s team, Bénédicte Monroe and Protometic Inc handed over a check of $1,200.00, $300.00 and $100.00 respectively as a donation to the ANQ. General public also donated cash a sum of $ 251.80. A total of $1,851.80 donation was collected during the event.

Claude Pilotte from Aventuriers Voyager also handed over a check. The fund was collected online while screening a movie “La route de soi”

The event was hosted by ANQ secretary Mr. Deepak Kumar Shrestha.
