The Association of Nepalese in Quebec (ANQ) successfully hosted the much-anticipated “Dar Khane” program on August 24, 2024, to celebrate the upcoming Hindu festival of “Haritalika Teej.” This significant occasion is a time for Nepali women to observe fasting and seek blessings from Lord Shiva, praying for longevity, prosperity, and marital bliss. In a beautiful display of tradition, women gathered at 5945 Cartier Street in Montreal to participate in the pre-festival feast known as “Dar".

Dressed in vibrant red attire accompanied by stunning accessories, the women radiated an infectious spirit of joy and vitality. The potluck-style gathering featured various homemade traditional dishes and sweets, including treats like “sel roti,” “kheer,” and “aloo tama,” each lovingly prepared by the attendees. The program commenced with a warm welcome to set the tone for the celebration ahead. Participants enjoyed delicious snacks while music filled the air, sparking an atmosphere of laughter and camaraderie. The excitement peaked as women danced enthusiastically to “Teej songs,” showcasing the vibrancy of our culture. A highlight of the event was the popular “Paani puri” stand, masterfully organized by our energetic young members/students Madalasha Bista, Sadhana Pudasaini, and Sanjeevani Paudel, adding a unique flavor to the day. As the hall resonated with shared memories and stories of life in Nepal, it became evident that this gathering was not just about marking a festival but about connecting hearts through shared experiences and laughter. The essence of sisterhood, solidarity, and friendship was beautifully embodied among the women present, making this occasion truly exceptional. The genuine connections formed across diverse backgrounds showed the invaluable strength of our community. Acts of kindness, encouraging words, and compassionate listening filled the hall with an uplifting spirit of giving. This day was more than a mere celebration; it was a powerful affirmation that when women come together, remarkable transformations can occur. On behalf of the ANQ team, we wholeheartedly extend our deepest gratitude to all participants for their unwavering support and enthusiasm. We celebrate this joyous occasion and wish everyone a “Happy Teej” filled with prosperity, joy, and boundless possibilities. Thank you for being such an integral part of the ANQ family and for keeping our traditions alive!
