The Association of Nepalese in Quebec (ANQ) organized a One-Day Yoga Retreat on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at 4035 Rue Jonathan, Terrebonne, QC. The program brought together 26 participants who spent a day engaging in yoga, meditation, philosophy, physical activities, and community bonding. The retreat was led by Sanyasi Aditya Murty, who shared his knowledge and experience throughout the day. Under his guidance, participants engaged in practices that balanced physical postures, breath control, relaxation, and philosophical discussions.

The retreat began at 8:00 AM with arrivals and a warm welcome. Participants then practiced Hatha Yoga (Asan and Pranayam), followed by a tea break with healthy snacks. The late morning sessions focused on Yoga Philosophy and a Q&A session addressing health-related issues, providing attendees with the opportunity to deepen their understanding of yoga beyond its physical practices.

After lunch, the group engaged in Yoga Nidra, an activity designed for deep relaxation and inner awareness. This was followed by Raj Yoga Philosophy, encouraging participants to reflect and explore self-knowledge. In the afternoon, the focus shifted to physical activities and fun, including basketball, volleyball, badminton, table tennis and Karma Yoga. These activities created an environment of teamwork, energy, and joy.

The retreat concluded with a traditional dinner of chhole puri, followed by a soulful Bhakti Yoga (Bhajan Kirtan) session that left everyone in a state of peace and harmony.

Participants expressed their gratitude and satisfaction with the retreat. Many shared that it was “worth organizing” and expressed their hope that ANQ would host such activities once or twice a year. Others highlighted that they “enjoyed peaceful time, fun, and learned simple yet powerful practices” that benefited both their physical and mental health. Some participants also appreciated the unique activities, such as silent walking in the jungle, which gave them a chance to connect with nature and experience mindfulness in action.

The yoga retreat was not only about yoga but also about building connections within the Nepali community in Quebec. By combining traditional practices, healthy food, games, and spiritual sessions, ANQ successfully created a holistic program that enriched both body and mind. The success of this event reinforces ANQ’s commitment to promoting health, well-being, and cultural values among community members. With the overwhelming positive response, future retreats are sure to become a cherished tradition.
